LURE COURSING: OUR SIGHT HOUNDS INTRODUCED US TO THE EXCITING SPORT OF LURE COURSING. THIS SPORT WAS FIRST DEVELOPED FOR SIGHT HOUNDS AS A WAY TO EXERCISE THEIR NATURAL HUNTING ABILITIES. OTHER DOGS HAVE DISCOVERED JUST HOW MUCH FUN IT IS TO CHASE A PLASTIC BAG "BUNNY" AROUND A FIELD. SO WE ARE NOW OFFERING INTRODUCTION TO LURE COURSING FOR ANY DOG WHO WANTS TO TRY.

Contact Donna DeVoist (ddevoist@stny.rr.com) to schedule a lure coursing event at your location.

Shake off the Cobwebs - Get Ready for Action - Lure Coursing Has Returned! Open to All Dogs!
Lure coursing has resumed. Many dogs have tried lure coursing and love it.

To reward their participation, we are introducing Wylde Pups Lure Coursing titles:

Wylde Courser Maniac (WCM) - for dogs who run the course 10 times and can't be distracted by anything;

Wylde Courser Extreme (WCX) - for dogs who run the course 20 times and are tireless in their pursuit of that little plastic bag.

Inexperienced dogs will be run one at a time. All dogs must be crated (this is preferred) or leashed SECURELY (Hang on Tight!) except when running. We prefer that dogs not be dog or people aggressive. This is a highly arousing sport for many dogs so be prepared to discover that your mild-mannered dog becomes a barking maniac when the lure starts up! Be mindful of your dog and its proximity to other dogs and people. An aroused dog can redirect its arousal to another dog or to a person. Keep your distance. Stay alert, maintain control, and stay safe. Please Note:  Prong, Electronic and Training (choke) collars are not allowed.

WHAT IS LURE COURSING ALL ABOUT?

    Try your paw at lure coursing - the most fun your dog can have with a plastic bag! Lure coursing is a fast-paced chase sport. Dogs run after a "bunny" lure (a white plastic bag) that is attached to a line. They run in an open field and run as fast or slow as they want. This sport was developed for sight hounds, but many dogs love the thrill of the chase. If your dogs love to chase things, they will LOVE lure coursing!  And even if you think they won’t, you might be very surprised when your dogs go nuts for the lure!

    Exactly how does it work? The simple answer is that we take a loop of string, stretch it out over a field on pulleys, attach a motor to make it move, and tie a plastic bag to the line. Start the motor and you have "Caffeine for Dogs".

    There are no special skills or training required to start your dog in lure coursing, but your dog must be in good physical condition because this is a demanding sport. Even though we emphasize Fun, we emphasize safety even more. Therefore, we will inspect dogs before they can run and if we think it is not safe for the dog to run, the dog won't run. We ask that you warm up your dog before coursing and cool down the dog after. This can be a simple five-minute walk on leash before and after.
