Inexperienced dogs will be run one at a time. All dogs must be crated (this is preferred) or leashed SECURELY (Hang on Tight!) except when running. We prefer that dogs not be dog or people aggressive. This is a highly arousing sport for many dogs so be prepared to discover that your mild-mannered dog becomes a barking maniac when the lure starts up! Be mindful of your dog and its proximity to other dogs and people. An aroused dog can redirect its arousal to another dog or to a person. Keep your distance. Stay alert, maintain control, and stay safe. Please Note: Prong, Electronic and Training (choke) collars are not allowed.

Lure Coursing at The Houndstooth Bark Park, Afton NY
(weather permitting**). $5 per run. The Big Dog Bark Park is fully fenced. Only one dog will be allowed within the fenced area at a time. All other dogs must be crated or securely leashed (Hang on tight!) until it is their turn. We prefer that dogs not be dog or people aggressive. Exactly how does it work? The simple answer is that we take a loop of string, stretch it out over a field on pulleys, attach a motor to make it move, and tie a plastic bag to the line. Start the motor and you have "Caffeine for Dogs".
There are no special skills or training required to start your dog in lure coursing, but your dog must be in good physical condition because this is a demanding sport. Even though we emphasize Fun, we emphasize safety even more. Therefore, we will inspect dogs before they can run and if we think it is not safe for the dog to run, the dog won't run. We ask that you warm up your dog before coursing and cool down the dog after. This can be a simple five-minute walk on leash before and after.
